Why conventional ellipsometers are slow
Commercial spectroscopic ellipsometers change the polarization state by mechanically rotating a polarizer or a compensator. Because that rotation takes time, a single point takes seconds to measure — and the sample has to hold still throughout.
Cubo uses a monolithic interferometer (MPI) in which two polarizers, set at 0° and 90°, generate a polarization interference signal. Δ is extracted from a single spectrum acquisition, so nothing has to rotate and measurement runs continuously at more than 20 Hz.

What that makes possible
Measure samples while they change
Thickness can be observed as deposition or etching proceeds — the interval that second-scale measurement simply cannot resolve.
Bring the instrument to the sample
The sensor unit is 141 × 50 × 105 mm. No vibration-isolation table and no dedicated metrology room.
Fits a laboratory budget
Commercial ellipsometers typically cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cubo targets a price an individual research group can fund directly.
